Queen Rania

Queen Rania

Queen Rania of Jordan is a human rights activist, advocate for children, and get this… YouTube videoblogger. My friend and Arab pop culture blogger Hana from Jordan reassured me she was cool and genuinely trying to advance women issues, not just playing into the web hype. I’ll admit it, I’m a cynic but who hasn’t been the past eight years? I’m coming around. Especially after seeing the queen’s latest video. The queen proves how cool she really is. Rania does her “Top 10” on Letterman.

Queen Rania has insightful commentary on extremism, veiled women, and other Islam-related stereotypes in her interview with Fareed Zakaria on CNN. It’s really good stuff if you’re looking for some closure on the al-Queda terrorism nonsense.

Hear me out…

I watched Obsession, a movie about radical Islam that was sent out to 28 million people as an ad for popular newspapers/other publications. The short film basically makes the point that being “politically correct” about Islam and Muslim culture is making America vulnerable to terrorists and extremists. The argument is that “whitewashing” issues is the dangerous because it prevents Americans from judging radicals in a radical way.

With 10% battery life on my computer, nursing a headache from around 5 p.m. today, I have two remedies.

First, “I got a story to tell” by Biggie.

Besides the amazing beat that saves my life whenever I hear it, here my fave line: “we gon get down like that. lay my game down quite flat, sweetness, where you parked at?” Okay, you gotta listen to get the total effect.

Second, for some reason I remembering “Under the Umbrella Tree” helps. Here marks the return of my official obsession with 90s Nickelodeon day-time shows. It’s been ten years, but does anyone remember this?

So, yes, it’s a weird remedy for a headache but it’s all I got that’s not hanging upside down and counting back from a hundred. Plus, I’m pretty sure that only works for the hiccups.

Westcheddar’s post on Mr. Youtube is one of those things I see on the internet and all of a sudden, come up with a million reasons I need to send it to people. That’s what true creativity does to a person. It’s why the internet is powerful. I had to send it to the people I worked with at United Way because we used to watch clips from RIZE to energize us on the hardest days. I had to send it to my friend Dan because one of the tricks Mr. YouTube does reminds me a lot of Dan’s secret table floating move (which you might need to see to get). Anyways, the hip hop movement on YouTube. It’s pretty cool to see it has gone from documentary to online video for the masses. Enjoy and subscribe to TEAM GET RIGHT below!
